Snooker is a popular cue sport played on a large, rectangular table with pockets in each of the four corners and in the middle of each of the long side cushions. The table is covered with a green baize cloth. The game is played with 22 balls: 15 red balls, one yellow ball, one green ball, one brown ball, one blue ball, one pink ball, and one black ball. The aim of the game is to score more points than the opponent by potting (sinking) the object balls into the pockets of the table.

History of Snooker

It was 1875, in Jubbulpore (now known as Jabalpur) young lieutenant Neville Francis Fitzgerald Chamberlain was experimenting with the game of black pool(a form of billiards), which consisted of 15 red balls and black ball, Chamberlain threw down few additional coloured balls and that’s how a new game of a “SNOOKER” was invented. In 1885, the British Billiard Champion John Roberts, visited India and met with Chamberlain during a dinner with the Maharajah of Cooch Behar. After knowing about the rules of Snooker, Robert decided he would introduce the back in England.

Rules of Snooker

The rules of snooker are relatively simple, but the game can be quite challenging to master. The game is played with 22 balls: 15 red balls, 6 coloured balls, and 1 white cue ball. The goal of the game is to score more points than your opponent by potting (sinking) the object balls into the pockets of the table.

To start a frame, the player must pot a red ball. Once a red ball is potted, the player must then pot a coloured ball. This process continues, with the player potting a red ball followed by a coloured ball, until all the red balls have been potted. Once all the red balls have been potted, the coloured balls must be potted in ascending order of value, starting with the yellow ball and ending with the black ball.

The player who scores more points at the end of the frame wins the frame. The first player to win a predetermined number of frames wins the match.
